Abstract

Twenty five adult dogs of both sexes were exposed to this study, the average body weight of each one was ranging from 15 to 20 kgm. Occlusion, lightion and retrepositioning of stensen’s duct were combined for each duct. In the same experimental animal a possible compensatory hyperactivity of the other major salivary glands was looked for. The present work showed gradual progressive atrophy of the parotid gland under investigation. This atrophy was proved by the naked eye appearance and histopathological examination. Histopathological & histochemical findings favours that there was a definite & remarkable diminution of the salivary secretory activity of the parotid gland after occlusion, ligation and retropositioning of its duct. The other major salivary glands showed minimal increase in P.A.S reaction as a compensatory hyperactivity.
