Abstract
The present study was carried out on 100 food poisoning cases coming to toxicology unit Emergency Mansoura -Hospital dating from June 1996 to January 1997 to detect the mycotoxins (aflatoxin and ochratoxin) in samples (Blood-urine and vomitus), taken from these cases and determine the levels of these mycotoxins and its relations to the type of food and other risk factors including; age, sex, occupation residence, and economic status of these cases. The mycotoxins were determined qualitatively by T.L.C and quantitatively by spectrophotometer. From the results and in conclusion; we found that; the percentage of positivity for mycotoxins was 42%, the higher percentage was aflatoxin 39%, while the percentage of ochratoxin was 3% only. The incidence of mycotoxicosis is markedly shifted towards younger age groups, lack of male sex predominance, the students represent a major sector of acute mycotoxic patients, the higher positivity were from rural areas, and mostly of low economic status.
