Abstract

This study was carried out on 172 patients with minimal-change ease aged 2-50 years, selected from Nephrology clinic of Mansourarology and Nephrology Center. Among them, 108 were males and 64 were females. They were distributed among subclasses of minimal-change disease as follows: 49.5% nil disease, 30.2% mild focal mesangial proliferation, 13.4% mild focal mesangial thickening and 7% IgM nephropathy. Cases with the seco/JdaIY forms ol/Je)JIJrolic sy/Jdrome were excluded from the study. After a thorough history and clinical examination, all patients were subjected to the following investigations: Urinalysis, 24 hours protein estimation, plasma proteins and albumin, total serum cholesterol, serum creatinine and investigations to exclude secondary causes of glomerulonephritis. Renal biopsy was done for every patient, and kidney tissues were examined using light, immunofluorescent and sometimes electron microscopy. Our results were divided into 3 goups: 1- Whole group results: Induced all the patients and intended for studying the clinicopathologic correlation in different minimal-change disease subclasses. 2- Retrospective group results: Comprised 56 patients selected from the whole group patients with age ranged from 4-45 years. Forty one patients were males and 15 patients were females. It was intended for studying in a retrospective manner the long term evolution of different subclasses of MCNS regarding hypertension, kidney function and response to different modalities of treatment.
