Abstract
Selenium is an essential component of glutathione oxialase ( GSH-PX ), an enzyme that protects cells by reducing intra cellular peroxides (Ricetti et al ; 1994 ). Keshandisease is an endemic cardiomyopathy which ears to be a unique myocardial disorder in china due to nium deficeiency (Wang and li, 1962 and GU, 1983 ). The aim of this study is to estimate serum selenium level in ients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and to find out the relationship between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and selenium deficiency. The meterial of this study comprised 25 patients suffering m idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (18 were males and 7 re females ). Their age ranging from 15-29.5 years. The gnosis was primarily based on clinical evaluation, electro cardiogram and echocardiogram. 10 patients were seletced as a ntrol group free from any suspetced cardiac problem.
