Abstract The aim of the present study is to detect the changes in pulse, blood pressure, electrocardiography, mood and cognitive functions in relation to cerebral infarction lateralization. The study included 40 cases with cerebral infarctions, 20 of them had left cerebral infarctions (12 females and 8 males) and 20 cases had right lesions (13 females and 7 males). The two groups were of comparable ages with a mean age of 52.8 years. They were admitted to Mansoura University Hospital within 48 hours after the onset of stroke. The patients were subjected to thorough history taking, clinical examination, pulse & blood pressure, electrocardiography and computerized axial tomography of the brain. Cognitive functions were studied using Brief Cognitive Rating Scale and study of depression after stroke was performed using Beck Rating Scale. From this study, the following results were obtained: * High incidence of transient elevation of blood pressure immediately after stroke, but hypotension occurred infrequently, however, no significant differences were found between right and left cerebral infarctions. |
