Abstract Liver disease is a national problem, schistosomiasis and viral hepatitis are the two major causes of chronic liver diseases in Egypt. We study the seropositivity to viruses B, C, and E in patients with chronic liver diseases and study of the role of HEV among Egyptians with chronic liver disease and its implication in decompensation of liver diseases especially the problem of bleeding oesophageal varices. This study comprised 140 hospitalized patients with chronic liver disease, in addition to 40 healthy subjects were taken as control; the patients were subdivided according to signs of hepatic decompensation into : • Group 1 compensated chronic liver diseases comprised 54 patients. • Group 2 decompensated chronic liver diseases comprised 68 patients. • Group 3 fulminant hepatic failure comprised 18 cases. |
