Abstract

In this work, 27 patients of chronic renal failure were studied and 3 months after kidney transplantation. All our patients were subjected to clinical neurological examination, series of laboratory investigations and special neurophysiological investigations including electroencephalographic recordings, electromyographic examination for distal and proximal muscles of the limbs beside the median nerve motor conduction velocity estimation. According to the type of immunosuppressive protocol, we divided our patients into 3 groups:- 1- Group (I) including 4- patients receiving steroids and ciclosporin. 2- Group (II) including 20 patients receiving steroids and azathioprine. 3- Group (III) including 3 patients receiving steroids, azathioprine and ciclosporin. The present work was carried out to evaluate the effects of these different immunosuppressive protocols on the nervous system through comparison between the results of the pre-transplant assessment.
