Abstract (1) The aim of this work is to testify some aspects of catecholamine theory in depression hoping to throw more light on such a theory, using the MHPG, the main metacentral norepinephrine, as the main tool in our research. (2) The review of literature includes the historical aspects of catecholamine theory in depression, norepine¬phrine hypothesis in depression (its neurophysiological, biochemical and clinical considerations), other biochemical hypotheses in depression as well as a hint about clonidine, an oc2-adrenergic receptor agonist, in psychiatry. (3) The practical part of this work includes a study depressive patients and healthy control group. Patient GraUE: Comprises 50 patients, 20 males and 30 females within age range from 20 to 68 years, with the diagnosis of ”Major Depressive Disorder” diagnosed according to the criteria of DSM III. They were given ’tofranil placebo for 2 weeks and then subjected to the following investigation. |
