Abstract In this study a retrospective analysis was performed 120 patients with advanced breast cancer (stage III & IV) who were treated with chemotherapy in Radiotherapy & Oncology Department, Mansoura University Hospital, during the period 1980-1989 inclusive. The response rate of the whole studied group was This figure is some what lower than figures reply western investigators, but the duration of res¬was more or less similar. The difference was attributed to the irregularity of administration and suboptimal dosage of chemotherapeutic drugs. The response rate was higher for stage III than for stage IV patients, but with lower complete response rate, shorter duration of remission and shorter survival time in stage III patients. These unexpected results was attributed to the lack of local treatment after initial chemotherapy in stage III patients. Second line chemotherapy yielded similar results to first line. It was found also that all regimens yielded comparable results either as a first-line or as a second. |
