Abstract In this study, a retrospective analysis was peroformed on 102 patients with lung cancer treated with different treatment modalities in Radiotherapy and Oncology Department, Mansoura University Hospital during the period 1980-1989 inclusive. It was found that most cases presented late, 71% in stage III, 24% in stage IV NSCLC and 65% in extensive stage SCLC. The response to treatment, was shown to be influenced by: stage of the disease, pathological type and grades. Also, it is shown that the response together with the sur¬vival were influenced by the different treatment modalities and chemotherapeutic regimens. Chemotherapy when combined with either surgery or radiotherapy gives superior results, as regards response rates and survival in patients with stage II & III NSCLC over each modality alone. Also the subjective response rate was found to exceed the objective response rate for the group treated with the combined modality. |
