Abstract

This study was performed in the high risk pregnancy unit in Obstet Department, Mansoura University Hospital to study EEG changes in preeclampsia. The aim of this study was to pick up preeclamptic women showing abnormal preictal changes and to study the effect of some drug regimens specially beta-endorphin stimulating therapy on this abnormal preictal activity. The study included a total number of 175 cases with severe preeclampsia. Every case was subjected to initial EEG beside the routine basic investigations, EEG abnormalities were recorded in 21 cases (12%). The commonest abnormlaties were depressed activity (33.33%) followed by disorganized background (23.80%). into Those patients with 3~roups; the first EEG one changes were divided randomly recieved alpha-methyl dopa and metoclopramide, the 2nd recieved alpha-methyl dopa and magnesium sulfate and the third recieved nifedipine and diazepam. Another EEG was done 48 hours following institution of therapy.
