Abstract Although the demand for contact lenses is growing rapidly, complications arising from the use of them are also on increase due to negligence of personal hygiene. A clinical study of 294 eyes fitted by soft, hard and gas permeable lenses was performed. In the aphakic group which included 108 eyes, the success rate of soft extended wear lenses was 80% and the success rate of hard contact lenses was 60X and the success rate for gas permeable lenses was 71.42%. The uncomplicated eyes were 55.38% in extended wear soft lenses and 40% in hard lenses and 75% in gas permeable lenses. Visual results were better in eyes with gas permeable and hard lenses. In the Myopic group which included 136 eyes, The success rate was 77.15% in extended wear soft lenses, 55.0% in hard contact lenses and 78.26% in gas permeable lenses. The uncomplicated eyes were 57.14% of eyes with extended wear lenses and 45% of eyes with hard lenses and 73.91% of eyes with gas permeable lenses a visual results were better in eyes with hard and gas permeable lenses. In astigmatic group of 2 D or more which included 50 eyes. The success rate was 50X in eyes with extended wear soft contact lenses, 66.67% of eyes with hard contact lenses, |
