Abstract Extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber IOL implantation become the most successful procedure even practised. The number of cataract extraction and IOL implantation had increased enormously over the past decade. The popularity of IOL had occurred as a result of improved surgical techniques, improved lens implant design. ( Ginsberg, 1984 ) Modern cataract surgery with the insertion of posterior chamber IOL carried an astonishingly high success rate and a very pleasingly low rate of complications. (Davison, 1986) This study was done to achieve the following objectives : 1- To assess the changes in ocular tension following intraocular lens implantation. 2- To find out the possible aetiological factors that may have a role in the production of pseudophakic glaucoma. 108 eyes of 105 patients were included in this study, of which 80 eyes of 77;atients with different types of cataract ( senile , complicated or traumatic ) were subjected to extracapsular cataract extraction with primary posterior chamber IOL implantation, and 28 aphakic eyes of 28 patients were subjected to secondary IOL implantation ( anterior chamber in 17 eyes and posterior chamber in 11 eyes). A control group including 100 eyes of 88 patients, were subjected to extracapsular cataract extraction only without lens implantation for comparison. All cases with pre-existing glaucoma or on medical therapy for glaucoma or with any contra-indication to IOL implantation were excluded from this study. (120) |
