Abstract

study was done to find answers to the following questions about posterior What is the incidence of posterior capsule rupture? What are the risk factors enhancing the occurrence of posterior capsule rupture? . - How can the surgeon avoid this complication? - What should the surgeon do if it occurs? - Should a posterior chamber IOL be inserted or not? .593 eyes of 496 patients subjected to planned extracapsular cataract extraction (with or without IOL implantation were included in the study. The age of patients included ranged from 6 months to 80 years. Nearly , all types of cataracts were included in the study , most of the cases were senile immature cataract (49.2%) followed by complicated cataract (17.20/0) , intumescent cataract (14.5%) , traumatic cataract (10.1%) , developmental cataract (5.9%), hypermature cataract (2.6%) and lastly senile posterior capsular cataract (0.5%). Posterior capsule rupture occurred in 129 eyes (21,8 %) out of 593 eyes. It was fO,tdthat the agetself is not a fact but rcer the type of cataract is mt rcapsule rupture,
