Abstract This study was carried on selected 90 eyes of 73 patients presented with senile cataract in the Ophthalmic Center, Mansoura University aiming at comparing the clinical results of 2 types of foldable IOL (silicone and hydrogel) with small optic (Smrn) PMMA IOL using two techniques of cataract extraction phacoernulsification and manual extracapsular cataract extraction. The patients were divided into 3 groups each one included 30 eyes the first group had manual extracapsular cataract extraction and small optic PMMA IOLs, the second group had phacoemulsification and silicone IOLs, the third group had phacoemulsification and hydrogel IOLs. Full ophthaltnological examination was done including biomicroscopy of the anterior segment, fundus examination, tonometry and biometry. An cases were followed up postoperatively for at least one year. - Comparing the visual results in the 3 groups the mam . difference was in the faster visual nehabilitation and less postoperative astigmatism in the silicone and hydrogel group than in the Pl’vIIvlA group.
