Abstract
This study was conducted in the Ophthahnic Center, Mansoura niversity aiming at studying of the safety and efficacy of the 3 types secondary IOL itnplantations; namely AC, PC and scleral-sutured ,C-IOL itnplantation as a mean of improving the functional acuity in elected aphakic patients. Eighty-five aphakic eyes of 82 patients were included in this tudy. The male to female ratio was 1.8-1 with a mean age of37.8 ears (range 5-70 years). A detailed history was taken and full iphthahnologic examination of the selected patients was done eluding best corrected V.A., biomicroscopy of the anterior egment, fundus examination, tonometry and biometry. Gonioscopy md fluorescein angiography were performed in some cases. The duration of aphakia ranged from 2 months-? years. The . dications for secondary implantation varied among the selected atients. Increased awareness of the IOL advantages was the main indication for secondary itnplantation (37.6%) followed by contact lens or spectacle intolerance (36.5%), while secondary itnplantation in conjunction with other surgical procedures accounted for 15.3% ,and contra-lateral pseudophakia in 10.60/0.
