Abstract Abnormalities of iron utilization in malignancy had been noted on many occasions. Also ineffective erythroplesis vas a concept invoked 1n the development of anemia in patients with malignancy. Such abnormality’is characterized by. normal or increased iron turnover, and a greatly decreased incorporation of iron into the mature red cells. In our study, we tried to re-evaluate and define an) abnormalities of iron metabolism in leukemic and Jynphomata children. Aiming at identifIcation of a possible mechanism of anemia of maliqnancy, and a possible plan to deal with it. also ve had tried to uncover the possible changes occurrinc in iron parameters folloving induction of chemotherapy, as well as a trial of combined chemotherapy and irop therapy. We had studied 95 patients sufferring from different types of childhood leukemias and lymphomas and l5 norma: children as a control group. As regard anaemia, .I t was a constant find i nq in all our studied 4 qroups yith lowest levels in ANLL group. The typ. of anemia was oftenly normocytic normochromic with certail. |
