Abstract

It’s known that only a proportion of individuals with schistosomiasis mansoni develops schistosomal hepatic fibrosis and the, other not (Mahmoud, 1977). This observation, particulary in view of the observed differences in individuals with nearly similar in- tensity and duration of infection, has raised the assumption of the role of host factors as well as parasitic factors in the pathogenesis of this major disease manifestation. For this purpose we planned to study the host factors that may lead to the genetic susceptibility to develop fibrosis. We investigated the T-cell immune response to the schistosomal antigen and the HLA-antigen frequencies to single out any association or linkoge disequilibrium that can indicate different genetic make up and solve the problem. The study was conducted on two groups of patients with isolated schistosomiasis mansoni for more than two years duration, nearly similar intensity .
