Abstract
Occupational exposure to wood dust can cause pathological changes in the lungs and certain types of wood are known to produce an allergic response (Michaels, 1967 and Findly, 1972). Ventilatory function changes in wood workers were discussed by many auth~ and a significant decre¬ments in ventilatory capacity during work shift were shown by A1-Zuhair et ale (1981). Unfortunately, few studies has been done in Egypt concerning the effect of exposure to wood dust on ventilatory function, therefore this study was under¬taken on wood workers (88) in the corporation company for furniture industry in Mansoura to study such effe¬cts on ventilatory functions. Environmental measurem¬ents of concentration of airborne was also performed. The control group comprised 30 male workers matching wood workers and never been exposed to wood dust were investegatad. The wood workers underinvestigation were distributed as follow: 39 workers in saw mill department with average dust concentration of 25 mg/m3•
