Abstract
Computed tomography has proved to be extremely useful in the diagnosis of mediastinal tumors. At present time. CT must be considered the most useful radiographic technique . available for the diagnosis of mediastinal tumors. Furthermore. in addition to its diagnostic utility. it can be guide needle aspiration biopsy of mediastinal tumors. thus avoiding the necessity of thoracotomy or mediastinoscopy. The aim of this work is to study the role of CT in diagnosis of various mediastinal tumors. Normal CT anatomy of the mediastinum. clinical presentation. and different CT appearances of various mediastinal tumors were discussed in detail. In this series. 30 cases with clinical and plain radiographic findings suggestive of mediastinal tumors were studied. They were 21 males and 9 females with their ages ranged from 2 to 70 years. All cases were subjected to full clinical examination and chest radiography (posteroanterior and lateral views) followed by CT examination of the chest after I.V. contrast administration.
