Abstract As hepatosplenic schistosomiasis is endemic in our country, ldiabetes mellitus is also common, So; diabs mellitus with )atosplenomegaly can be considered an Egyptian problem. Diabetes mellitus is commonly complicated by vascular occ1ure diseases which can be attributed to many factors among which I disorders of blood coagulation and defective platelet functions. In schistosomal hepatic fibrosis there is usually a hypocoagu- tie tendency due to defective synthesis of coagula’t1:on factors by rer and due to their consumption in dissiminated intravascular ~lation present in these patients (Marouf, 1976). The present work reported a significant decrease of factor Ll in maturity onset diabetics compared to control subjects. La may reflect dispropotionate production or degradation due to 9 effect of oral hypoglycemic drugs. Another possible explana- on may be related to the increase in anti-thrombin 111 and brinolytic activity which were recorded, by some investigators, occur with better control in maturity onset diabetes mellitus th diet restriction or the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs. I The present work reported a significant decrease of Vl11 in tients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis and in maturity onset abetic patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis when compa- d to the control subjects. This may be the result of increase |
