Abstract

The present study includes two parts:I: A clinical study, done on 30 patients with obstructive jaundice. These were divided into two groups: II: Eight patients who had non malignant causes of obstructive jaundice. 22 patients who had malignant causes of obstructive jaundice. An experimental study, done on 15 strein dogs in which ligation of CBD was done for different periods. This part included three groups : A : CBDL for two weeks. B : CBDL for four weeks. C : CSDL for six weeks. At the end of the period of CBDL biliary drainage was cholecystogastro?tomy. Patients in the clinical study had preoperative careful history taking, thorough clinical examination and provisional clinical diagnosis was put forward. Diagnosis in this study was based on clinical examination, laboratory investigations, abdominal ultrasonography and finally confirmed by operative findings. Laboratory investigations done for all patients included: Full blood picture, E.S.R., Peripheral lymphocyte, bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombin time, cholesterol, Na++, K+, Ca++, serum fibrinogen, FDP and hepatitis B surface antigen.
