Abstract
Management of anorectal malformation has long been achallenqe to pediatric surgeons. Errors in management of this malformation lead to undesirable sequelae. Anorectal malformation are best defined in anatomical terms. In 1984, at the wing spread workshop on anorectal malformation organised by stephens and smith, A classification was established to define these malformation according to the patients sex and the level at which arrest of rectal descent occured, while many rare malformation are not included, the system is easy to understand and to teach. For accurate diagnosis of the anorectal anomal ies, no one method is sufficient, clinical examination, radiological and special methods of investigation collectively can reach the diagnosis, even in some cases the diagnosis may be changed after surgical exploration. Alth6Lgh many cases can be primarly diagnosed clinically, clinical examination of the perineum does not necessarily predict whether the lesion is low, intermediate or high, for example, some children, have a clearly delineated anal area and yet have a high anomaly. So each case must be investigated thoroughlly for the following purposes : I, To determine the level of the blind rectal pouch. 2. To identify any associated fistulous communication.
