Abstract
The use’ of staplers in surgery dates back to the presentation by Hmer Hutl of Budapest in 1908 for resection of benign and malignant antral gastric lesions • Several modifications were added by several authors so as to simplify its uses and techniques, among these modifications are those added by the Americans, so .their staplers are characterised by functiopal construction, better balance, and the provision of preloaded, presterilized, disposable color • Coded cartridges that can be inserted in the instrument without disassembling them at all • Staplers are used now in wide range in differ- ent types of surgery as it is used in gastrointestinal surgery where it is used in esophageal, gastric, esoph¬agogastric, duodenal, pancreatic, colonic and colorectal surgery, also it is used in pulmonary surgery, vascular surgery and used also to close the fascia and skin by the new dispQsable fascia and skin staplers • Performance of surgical anastomosis by means of these surgical stapling devices has achieved wide pop¬ularity in recent years as they decrease tissue trauma
