Abstract From this study, transvaginal sonography proved to be a sensitive, and specific in the diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia, as well as in monitoring the response of these cases to therapy. On the other hand, histopathological examination of the endometrium after dilatation and curettage still the method of choice in differentiating the endometrial pathologies, inspite of being time consuming and has some complications as infection, heamorrhage and perforation of the uterus. It was concluded that both drugs namely, norethisterone and tamoxifen, have equal therapeutic effect in treatment of women with premenopausal bleeding due to endometrial hyperplasia. Furthermore, the complications and failure rate, with subsequent hysterectomy were rearly similar in both groups. However, tamoxifen is more expensive than norethisterone, so, it be used for cases failed to respond to gestagens or when gestagens are contraindicated as hepatic impairment and thrombo-embolic diseases. |
