Abstract Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a common clinical problem that leading cause of morbidity and mortality all over the ,world. A variety of mediators including the prionflammatory cytokines ’can have important effect on the myocardium and vasculature and appear tto be involved in the pathophysiology of heart failure. Recently, . interleukin-6 (IL-6) a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine has gained especial interest as regard its role in the pathophysiology of heart failure and other cardiovascular disease states. The present work has been carried out to: Determine plasma IL-6 and noradrenaline levels in CHF patients with different ’aetiologies. Explore the relation between plasma IL-6 and noradrenaline concentration and the severity of heart failure according to NYHA classification, as well as, left venricular systolic function. 50 patients with symptomatic heart failure (NYHA class I-IV) have been enrolled in the present study. Of them 28 females (560/0) and 22 males (44%), their mean age 49.6 +13.5 years. Forty percent of the patients were in NYHA class I-II and the remaining 60% were in NYHA class III-IV. |
