Abstract This study was conducted to evaluate pituitary adrenal axis, altered adrenal steroidogenesis and testosterone changes in children and adolescents with obesity. Also, to evaluate the measures of insulin resistance and its relation to altered steroidogenesis. This study included 40 children with simple obesity ( > 140% of ideal weight for height and BMI > 95th centile) 26 of them were females, the other 14 were males, The studied patients were taken from the obese children and adolescents attending consecutively to the out patient clinic of Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit - Mansoura University Child Hospital. The study also included 15 normal children of matched age and sex. The studied group was divided in 4 main groups. Group/: This group comprised 26 obese females. Their age ranging from 4 years to I 5 years. Group/I: This group comprised 14 obese males. Their ages ranging from 5 years to 14 years. Group/II: This was the group including the reference female subjects, which comprised 9 females, their ages ranging from 3.5 years to 12 years. |
