Abstract

Viral hepatitis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. Hepatitis E virus (HEV) has recently been recognized as the major etiologic agent of enteric ally transmitted non- A, non-B hepatitis (Goldsmith et al., 1992). The prevalence of HEV in children with NANB hepatitis was 42% (positive for anti-HEY IgG by ELISA), while in healthy children was 25% (positive for anti-HEY IgG), of these children with NANB were 40% (positive for anti-HEY IgM by ELISA) (Goldsmith et al., 1992). The aim of this work is to study the impact of HE V infection on patients with HCV infection and schistosomiasis, also the frequency of HEV antibodies (IgG) in adult patients with HCV infection, schistosomiasis, Also to study the role of HEV in patients with sporadic fulminant hepatitis. This study was carried on 110 cases. They were classified into the following groups:- .Patients with HEV infection. ..Patients with HCV infection. .Patients with HCV and HEV co-infection. .Patients with HCV and schistosomiasis.
