Abstract

Sixty colorectal cancer patients were included in tllis; study, they were thirty males alld thil1y females. Their age was ranging from seventeen to seventy-seven years with median age of43 years and mean age of45.3 years. Most of patients were presented with bleeding per rectum. Colonic’ cases were thirty-follr and rectal cancers were twenty-six with colon / rectllln ratio of 1 .3: 1. All patients were sllbmitted for cllrative sllrgical resection after laboratory, radiological and endoscopic evaillation except for two cases who were treated with palliative chemotherapy. The resected specimens were examined macroscopically and by rolltine microscopic examination. Immunohistochemical examination llsing anti-CEA and nm23-H 1 monoclonal antibodies was done for sections oftllmor tissue. Lymph nodes free f1-om invasion were stained with allti-CEA antibody. After histopathological examination, staging ~as as follow: B,: 7 cases, 82: 29 cases, C1: 7 cases, C2: 13 cases and D: 4 cases. Grading was as follow: G I: 17 cases, G II: 13 cases, Gill: 13 cases and G IV: 17 cases, Preoperative serllm CEA was elevated (? 5ng/ml) in 22 patients representing 36,7%. Immllllohistochemical stainillg with nm23-H I monoclonal antibody was positive of different intensities in 23 patients (38.3~/6), Immllllohistochemical staining witl. anti-CEA monoclonal antibody was positive of different sites and intensity as follow: apical cytoplasmic and luminal: 17 cases, cytoplasmic: 18 cases, stromal: 3 cases and mixed cytoplasmic and stromal: 6 cases, CEA staining of negative lymph nodes (38) revealed positive staining in 4 cases.
