Abstract
Strangulating hernia is most important type of hernia because of their high morbidity and mortality. Strangulating hernia makes prosthetic mesh placement difficult task due to high risk . of infection. The aim of work is to evaluate tolerance of intraperitoneal mesh repair in strangulating ventral hernia. A prospective study of 10 patient underwent complicated ventral midline abdominal hernia repair with use of intra¬peritoneal mesh repair between May 1999 and June 2000 were identified by Emergency surgery unit of Emergency Hospital of Mansoura university. all patients were subjected to preoperative assessment, operative method and postoperative follow up for three months at least up to one year in some patients. No intraoperative mortality, the over all incidence of early complications were 70% (l00/0 cellulitis, 200/0 wound infection, 200/0 seroma, 100/0 postoperative ileus, 100/0 postoperative pneumonia) which treated without removal of the mesh. The over all jncidence of long term complications were 20% (200/0 chronic abdominal pain, no chronic wound sinus, no small bowel obstruction, no enterocutaneous fistua, no recurrence).
