Abstract Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease and progressive process. It involves coronary, carotid and peripheral arteries. The pattern of rosclerotic involvement and the sequence of arterial affection need . further evaluation, because therapeutic strategies may be affected by comorbidity from atherosclerotic disease in distant sites. The aim of this work was to non invasively evaluate the extracranial carotid arteries and lower extremity peripheral arterial system by a valuable, inexpensive, safe and repetitive tool to search .1’ for atherosclerotic process and its correlation with atherosclerotic C D in young Egyptian patients below the age of 45 years. The present study has been conducted from January 1998 to April 2000. The study population consisted of 50 young patients «45 ars of years of age) with documented CAD (42 males and 8 females). They were divided into two groups:- • Group I: Patients with coronary artery disease combined with carotid and/or peripheral vascular disease. it comprised 13 patients (12.males and one female). Group II: Patients with CAD but without carotid nor PVD. It comprised 37 patients (30 males and 7 females). |
