Abstract

Color-coded duplex sonography (CCDS) is a minimally invasive diagnostic method that provides objective data on arterial inflow and veno-occlusive mechanism involved in erectile function. Meanwhile, nocturnal penile tumescence remains the most accepted diagnostic method capable of distinguishing organic and non-organic erectile dysfunction. Most of men suffering from erectile dysfunction have organic etiologies. Vascular disease, either arterial insufficiency, venous leakage or combination of the two, is the most common organic cause. Our work was aimed to evaluate the correlation of both Nocturnal Penile Tumescence Monitoring (NPT) and Color Coded Duplex Sonography (CCDS) for the diagnosis of erectile dysfunction. This work was conducted on thirty-two patients, their ages ranged from 24 to 72 years and their complaint ranged from 6 months to 10 years. They were selected after exclusion of endocrinological and neurological causes of erectile dysfunction and they were subjected to: 1- Full clinical examination. 2- Nocturnal Penile Tumescence (NPT) monitoring (Regiscan). 3- Color Coded Duplex Sonography (CCDS). 4- Dynamic Pharmacocavernoso-metry/-graphy (twelve cases). It is apparent from this study that patient’s recollections of early morning erection and risk factors correlate poorly with the results of both NPT and CCDS and are unreliable in establishing an aetiological diagnosis.
