Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of irradiated cercarial accine in eliciting protective immunity against S. mansoni and to ssess the cellular immune responses in challenged mice after accination with this model. e The life cycle of S. mansoni was maintained to obtain large number of cercariae. The study was done on 240 laboratory bred Swiss Albino mice which were classified into 7 groups as follow: •Two groups were used as positive and negative controls (20 mice each) . •Five groups (40 mice each) were immunized with ± 500 S. mansoni cercariae exposed to different doses of gamma radiation from 60 Cobalt source (20 Kr, 50 kr, 60 Kr, 70 Kr and 80 Kr) . •Cercariae were attenuated at different doses of gamma radiation from Cobalt-60 source at a rate of 2 kr /rninute. Cercariae were used within an hour after irradiation. Mice immunized by subcutaneous injection (500 cercariae/mouse). Four weeks later, half of vaccinated mice together with age and sex matched.
