Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a complex disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia associated with complications affecting the kidneys, eyes, nerves and micro and macrovascular systems. Diabetes is characterized by the existence of a thrombosis prone condition mostly related to hyperglycemia, and precedes the structural damage of endothelium. Elevated levels of VWF were found to precede complications of diabetes and contribute to their development. The aim of this work was to study the hemostasis, thrombotic and fibrinolytic state, vWF and PAJ in children and adolescents with lOOM. Thirty six children and adolescents with type I lOOM had been enrolled III this study, they were recruited from the out patients clinic of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit and from the Pediatric Departments, and the lCU, Mansoura University Children Hospital. They were 21 females (58.3%) and 15 males (41.7%) & had a mean age 10.9 ± 2.9 years. AgroupoflO healthy children of matched age and sex were chosen as a control group. The subjects in this work were classified into 4 groups: Group I : children with controlled lOOM (12 cases, 5 males & 7 females) Group 11 children with uncontrolled lOOM (16 cases, 7 males & 9females) Group III : children with DKA (8 cases, 3 males & 5 females) Group VI : healthy controls (10 cases, 4 males & 6 females).
