Abstract Diabetes insipidus is a rare disease the idiopathic form responsible for about 50%of cases (Sklar, 1985; Wong, 1995; Yaucha & Suddaby, 1991). Although the disease can occur atany age the peak incidence is between first and third decades with median age of 16 years (Moses et aI., 1985). The disease characterized by polyuria more than 3 liters / day and without proper fluid replacement may lead to dehydration, vascular collapse and death (Hazinski, 1992; Hill, 1990; Yaucha & Suddaby, 1991). , The present study has aimed at evaluation of the possible causes of diabetes insipidus in out community and possible methods of diagnosis. They were divided into 3 groups, 16 subjects with diabetes insipidus not responding to treatment with intranasal A VP and other 22 subjects with diabetes insipidus with good response on treatment with intranasal A VP and other 12 subjects diagnosed as diabetes insipidus and their laboratory findings are compared before and after treatment with intranasal A VP with good response all were compared to 12 healthy normal control subjects of matched age and sex. All subjects were subjected to full clinical history, examinations, laboratory investigations, especially anterior and posterior pituitary hormones and MRl on sella turcica. |
