Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the serum level of IL-13 and IL¬lS in patients of hematologic malignancies both before and after chemotherapy ( induction). The study was conducted on 26 patients, 16 had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, 10 had acute myeloblastic leukemia these patients were admitted to Oncology and Hematology Unit, Mansoura University Children Hospital. Also the study included 20 normal children selected between the attendants of the out patient clinics of Mansoura University Children Hospital with matched age as a control group. Patients enrolled in this study were examined at the initial diagnosis before the start of chemotherapy and then they are re-examined after induction chemotherapy. These patients were subjected to: full detailed history thorough clinical examinations, full laboratory investigations full laboratory investigations including bone marrow aspiration. Serum level of IL-13 and IL-IS were estimated in the sera of those patients both before and after chemotherapy. For the control group full laboratory investigations were done as in the studied groups with exception for bone marrow examination and IL-13, IL-IS estimations were done once only. Although IL-13 serum level in ALL and AML groups of patients was found to be higher than the control groups (statistically significance difference) it became excessively elevated after induction of remission in both groups.
