Abstract The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the principle and technique of virtual bronchoscopy (V.B,) and also, to evaluate its diagnostic role in cases of bronchogenic carcinoma. Twenty patients (17 males and 3 females) with clinically suspected bronchogenic carcinoma were refered from the Thoracic Medicine Department of Mansoura University Hospitals. Their ages ranged from 30-80 years with mean age of 55 years. All patients were subjected to history taking and full clinical examination. Plain X-ray, which was the initial step in the radiological assessment, and spiral C.T. scan were done for all patients, Virtual bronchoscopy was done for all patients (prior to r.O,B,) based on the data preserved by axial spiral C.T. chest. r.O,B. was done for 19 patients to evaluate the tracheobronchial tree, to detect any endobronchial mass and also for biopsy, The results of this study reveled that 18 patients have been histopathological proven to have bronchogenic carcinoma. |
