Abstract

Ultrasound has become an important tool in the management of cancer as it plays an important role both in the diagnosis and stagIng of variety of neoplasms. We studied 100 patients who were classified into 4 groups all underwent a different technique of ultrasound examination including endoscopic ultrasound, Endorectal ultrasound, Japaroscopic and intraoperative ultrasound, and transvaginal ultrasound. All the patients underwent other radiologic techniques as transcutaneous ultrasound or CT examination Our results were comparison between the accuracy of these modem techniques of ultrasound and other radiology in the accuracy of diagnosis and staging. Endoscopic ultrasound was more accurate than CT in the staging of cancer esophagus, in the diagnosis of ’ submucosal masses, while CT was more accurate in the staging of cancer stomach, both techniques had similar accuracy in the diagnosis of pancreatic masses and staging of pancreatic malignancies. . Endorectal ultrasound was more accurate in the staging , of colorectal cancer and in the assessment of relations Of fpelvic masses to the rectal wall. Laparoscopic ultrasound and intraoperative ultrasound’ were more accurate than both transcutaneous ultrasound 1 and CT scan in the assessment of the liver for secondaries .
