Abstract Osteoid osteoma is a small benign painful, osteoblastic lesion most frequently observed in patients 5 to 25 years of age. Typical features consist of night pain relieved by aspirin with a small lytic nidus surrounded by reactive bone sclerosis on CT scan. It commonly affect the male more than the female with male to female ratio of 3 : 1. Most commonly affect long tubular bones. This study involved fifteen patients with osteoid osteoma studied in a prospective manner in period between January 2000 to December 2001 to evaluate the results of operative treatment in cases of osteoid osteoma. The method of treatment used was randomized for the fifteen cases. Five cases were treated by wide enbloc excision, five cases were treated by un-roofing of the nidus and five cases were treated by percutaneous CT guided destruction of the nidus by burr with subsequent alcohol injection. |
