Abstract

Left ventricular thrombus is a common postmortem finding in patients with diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction- where they were subjected toacute myocardial infarction, that is shown to occur during the first days of acute myocardial infarction and considered to be an important and possible source of embolism. Two-dimensional echocardiography can reliably detect left ventricular thrombi, being not only a sensitive and specific technique; but also provides information regarding thrombus mobility, site, shape, and the condition of left ventricular contractile function The aim of this work is to assess the prevalence of left ventricular thrombi in patients with acute myocardial infarction; and to discover the most important risk factors predisposing for their occurrence To achieve these goals- we studied 200 patients admitted to the coronary care unit of Mansoura Emergency Hospital with definite diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction- where they were subjected to diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction- where they were subjected toassay and two- full clinical evaluation; 12 lead electrocardiogram, serial cardiac .enzymes first week of myocardial infarction. first week of myocardial infarction. ventricular thrombi and those without left ventricular thrombi. An overall conclusion of the present study is that the presence of left ventricular thrombus is suspected to increase if one or more of the following is present:I - Anterior wall myocardial infarction. 2- Clinical heart failure (Killip class > 1).
