Abstract
This study is aiming at evaluation of the role of MRI (principally) & US in diagnosing different elbow pathologies. This study included 35 patients (21males. 14 females) with different elbow lesions. They were categorized, according to the history of trauma, into2 main groups: traumatic & non- traumatic. All patients underwent history taking, local exam ., plain X-ray & MRI, while 23 patients were subjected to US & C T scan was carried out in 3 patients MRI allows clear depiction of the muscles, tendons, nerves, vessels, ligaments, bones & cartilage that compose the elbow joint. With its multiplanar & multisequence capability & excellent resolution of soft tissue structures, hence, it is considered as a powerful method for non- invasive diagnosis of elbow disorders. US can diagnose cystic lesions e.g. synovial effusion. & bursitis, muscular and tendinous lesions effectively, but it is not reliable in diagnosing ligamentous lesions & can not be used in bone marrow assessment. In conclusion, although, US is considered as a promising imaging modality & can be used as a first line in diagnosis, MRI remains the modality of choice for diagnosis of the elbow lesions.
