Abstract

The radiological preoperative examination is primarily aimed at determining the number, location & length of renal arteries, and to exclude renovascular, aortic, or renal parenchymal disease. Furthermore, anatomic anomalies of the renal veins or the urinary collecting systems should be revealed. The objectives of this study were : to compare CT and MRI in assessment of renal vasculature, parenchyma and collecting system of living Kidney transplant donors & to defines which in better as a single modality for comprehensive evaluation of living Kidney transplant donors. This study was conducted on 54 living renal donors, 26 males & 28 females with an age range from 22 years to 60 years. Four of them were excluded, so the study was completed on 50 donors, 24 males & 26 females who undergone the following examination, CT, MRI & Radioisotope. The results of both CT & MRI examination as regarding vascular anatomy, parenchymal monphology and urographic data were reviewed and compared with the operative data which was considered the gold standard. The results of the study showed a sensitivity of 100% by all techniques, specificity 92.10%, 97.22% and overall accuracy 94%, 98% by CT & MRI respectively. Both CT & MRI had the same sensitivity, specificity & overall accuracy in detection of renal venous anatomy, paranchymal, pelvicalyceal anomalies. In conclusion both CT and MRI provide similar information for preoperative planning of potential living renal donors.
