Abstract Denture stomatitis has been reported in 11 % to 67% of complete denture wearers, it is more common on the palatal mucosa than mandibular mucosa. Denture stomatitis appeared as a multi-factorial disease and the major causative factor for denture stomatitis is trauma from ill fitted dentures with neglected follow up and maintenance of good oral hygiene. It appeared more common for senile and chronic debilitating disease patients whom had nutritional inefficiency and consume high carbohydrate diet. Microbial infection appeared also as a major causative factor in incidence of denture stomatitis. The main micro-organisms concerned with denture stomatitis as reviewed in literatures are streptococci, staphylococci and candida albicans. In this study the treatment of denture stomatitis was planned :irstly to reduce denture trauma by construction of new properly :itting dentures relined with soft liner materials, secondly to inhibit -icrobial growth on soft lining materials by using chitosan film :ating to maximize the role of soft lining materials. |
