Abstract

This study was carried out on fifteen patients indicated for immediate denture construction. This study was planned to evaluate to what extent immediate tooth and implant supported immediate overdentures would beneficially preserve occlusal vertical dimension, biting force and maintain masticatory muscle activity comparable to immediate conventional denture. According to the plan of this study, all patients were randomly classified into three equal groups: Group (A): Included five patients whom received conventional acrylic immediate complete mandibular denture (mucosal borne support). Group (B): Included five patients whom received acrylic immediate complete mandibular overdenture supported by reduced root canal treated canines (tooth borne support). Group (C) :Included five patients whom received acrylic immediate complete mandibular overdenture supported by osseointegrated fixtures in the canines region (implant borne support). Result of this study demonstrated significant decreased in occlusal vertical dimension in all tested groups, the least regression was observed for tooth borne support overdenture (group B). Also result of this study demonstrated insignificant differences between groups in massetric muscle function activity during rest position. Also the result of this study demonstrated slightly significant differences between tooth borne support overdenture (group B) with lower masseter muscle function activity during initial contact position compared to mucosal borne support denture (group A) and implant borne support overdenture (group C). In addition, result of this study demonstrated that; implant borne support overdenture (group C) recorded the highest maximum biting force than tooth and mucosal borne supported prosthesis. from the results it could be concluded that; 1. Immediate complete overdentures whether tooth or implant borne support prosthesis is recommended than totally mucosal borne support prosthesis.2. With increased experience comes a greater understanding of potential complications and features to observe when applying this immediate prosthetic construction to better insure its success.3. Immediate construction of over implanted prosthesis can be successful and increase clinical efficiency under specific clinical situations.4. Masticatory muscle biting force is functionally dependent on maintenance of muscle health and occlusal vertical dimension
