Abstract This study was performed to compare osseointegration of HA-coated ,and non-coated titanium dental implants, used for single tooth replacement, both clinically and radiographically. Twenty patients seeking replacement of their single missing teeth were selected for this study. Patients were eively evaluated through a detailed case-history taking, clinical and radiographic examinations. The age of patients included in this study was —ranged between twenty and thirty five years. selected patients were known to have good oral hygiene and a reasonable attitude toward dentistry. They haa no history of systemic diseases (e.g. diabetes) that interferes with bone healing, or long-term medication drugs (e.g. corticosteroids) that reduce the patient’s ability to fight infection, and finally there was no history of parafunctional habits (e.g. bruxism and clenching of teeth). For every patient, the HA-coated titanium implant was installed on the left side of the mandible while the non-coated titanium implant was installed on the right side. A total number of fourty implants were inserted in the twenty patients. Two patients were withdrawn from the study due to failure in osseointegration. Apart from the two dropped-out patients, all implants ere loaded into function after three months post-installation. |
