Abstract

This study presents a review of the malignancy grading systems of oral squamous cell carcinomas (S.c.c.) in an attempt to correlate the most recent and reproducible grading systems with the findings of Agnor and PCNA. It aslo studies the relation between the AgNOR counts, PCNA results, and clinical staging as well as the histologic grading of the patients. This study investigated forty five patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (29 males and .16 females). The carcinomas were most commonly located in the cheek (12 cases), tongue (8 cases) and the gingiva (7 cases). The cases were clinically classified according to the TNM classification and it was found that many cases were in stage III 18 cases) and stage II (15 cases), while less cases (9 cases) were in stage I, and 3 cases were in stage IV. Moreover, twenty tWtr cases thibited lymph node metastasis while twenty three cases did not. Biopsies taken from the patients were fixed in 10% neutral rmalin. The sections were stained with haematoxylin and eosin for ie diagnosis and the evaluation of the malignancy score of each case. k system evaluated six morphological parameters.
