Abstract

BACKGROUND:Caudal epidural analgesia is a relatively simple technique with predectable level of blockade , and it is one of the most commonly used regional techniques.AIM OF THE WORK: The aim of this work was to evaluate the analgesic characters and profile of ropivacaine/neostigmine mixture.PATIENTS AND METHODS:The study was carried out on 30 adult patients.Patints were classified into 3 equal groups, group R received ropivacaine , group N received neostigmine and group RN received ropivacaine + neostigmine.RESULTS:group RN had the best pain score and longer duration of postoperative analgesia as compared with the other groups . CONCLUSION: addition of neostigmine to caudal ropivacaine improves the quality of postoperative analgesia and prolongs its duration compared with caudal ropivacaine alone without increasing incidence of side effects in patients subjected for lumbar disc surgery.
