Abstract
This study was carried out on VDT users and a matched control group from the workers in Egyptian telecommunication company to study the prevalence of hearing impairment and its characteristic pattern, musculoskeletal disorders of upper extremity mainly carpal tunnel syndrome and reproductive disorders. This study was performed at Egyptian telecommunication company at Mansoura city and Neurology Department at Mansoura University Hospital. The study population were subjected to questionnaire fullfing the requirements of the study, clinical examination, electrophysiological studies, cervical X ray for subjects with musculoskeletal symptoms and audiometric screening was performed. The background noise levels were measured at different departments of Egyptian telecommunication company at Mansoura. The results of the present study revealed that the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss was significantly higher among the headset users (63.6%)compared to non users (28.5%). The prevalence of cervical radiculopathy and carpal tunnel syndrome were higher among the VDTs users compared to controls with no significant difference. There was no significant difference between VDT users and controls regarding the different reproductive disorders.
