Abstract After renal transplantation the expression of IL-8 was increased in tubular cells, suggesting an important role for this protein in the ongoing allograft rejection. We studied the value of IL-8 determinations as an early marker in renal transplant rejection diagnosis. Serum samples were analyzed with an IL-8spesific sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. IL-8 serum concentration increase during acute renal rejection episodes, suggesting a role of IL-8 in the process of rejection and its estimation may be of value in non-specific diagnosis of rejection but have no role in the prediction of acute renal rejection. Detection of IL-8 mRNA expression has no role in the diagnosis neither the prediction of acute renal allograft rejection. |
