Abstract

It is generally agreed that comminuted fractures of radial head is treated by excision of radial head when anatomical reconstruction is impossible . Excision of the radial head is a widely practiced operation for the treatment of comminuted fractures and some cases of marginal displaced fractures of the head of the radius . The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of radial head excision on the inferior radioulnar joint and related wrist complaint . Good results have been reported after excision of the radial head although postoperative problems such as chronic pain in elbow and wrist joints, new bone formation at the site of resection, ulnar nerve symptoms and proximal migration of the radius with late subluxation of the distal radioulnar joint have been reported . But there is no definite correlation between subluxation of the distal radioulnar joint and wrist symptoms.
